A war on the boards is going down at fort Monroe Community Center! Come show your skills at the new chess club! Experienced member can play each other to prove who is truly the king, and who is a pawn. New members can learn the basics from staff and improve to become kings and queens of the game!

Teetotalers and Moonshiners, and Hampton’s Prohibition Story

The exhibit combines content from the Virginia Library’s 2017 exhibit “Teetotalers and Moonshiners: Virginia’s Prohibition Experiment” with research and artifacts from the Hampton History Museum on the local experience. "Hampton's Prohibition Story" features myriad items to tell the story, including dozens of photographs; numerous bottles, jugs and other containers; games, smoking accoutrements, beverage dispenser, signs and materials of saloon culture; service ware, promotional items and memorabilia from Point Comfort resorts, Phoebus police and fire department items, doctor bag and instruments; and moonshine still components on loan from the Museum of the Albemarle. The exhibit continues through February 4, 2024.

Nerdhampton Convention @ Northampton Branch Library

Welcome to the Nerdhampton Con! Our very first mini library comic convention! All ages are welcome and encouraged! Anyone can be a hero. Dress up like your favorite characters or just wear your best nerdy apparel! All day long we'll have comic giveaways for Free Comic Day, a Selfie Station, Create a Hero and Create a Comic coloring sheets, board games and more! Storytime @ 1:30 PM. Rey from Star Wars visits from a galaxy far, far away to give kids a special storytime. Afterward, Rey will lead a costume parade! Lego room @ 2:30 PM. Cosplay Contest @ 3:00 PM - Contests for ages 13 and up. Door Prize Drawings @ 4:00 PM - so make sure to check in with staff when you arrive for a chance to win one!

Special Olympics Track & Field

Hampton Parks, Recreation & Leisure Services is teaming up with Special Olympics Virginia to host track & field meets for individuals ages 8-22 with disabilities for the track & field season. Participation includes individual and team play, competing in local, regional, and state games.
