The City Council will have a ceremony at 6 p.m. recognizing innovative programs at Hampton City Schools. The 6:30 p.m. legislative session will follow.

Teetotalers and Moonshiners, and Hampton’s Prohibition Story

The exhibit combines content from the Virginia Library’s 2017 exhibit “Teetotalers and Moonshiners: Virginia’s Prohibition Experiment” with research and artifacts from the Hampton History Museum on the local experience. "Hampton's Prohibition Story" features myriad items to tell the story, including dozens of photographs; numerous bottles, jugs and other containers; games, smoking accoutrements, beverage dispenser, signs and materials of saloon culture; service ware, promotional items and memorabilia from Point Comfort resorts, Phoebus police and fire department items, doctor bag and instruments; and moonshine still components on loan from the Museum of the Albemarle. The exhibit continues through February 4, 2024.

Credit & Budgeting Readiness

This 5-week workshop will help participants effectively address the financial demands and challenges of life. Teenagers and adults searching for financial readiness skills are encouraged to participate. The program explores the topic of budgeting, disciplined spending, credit readiness and gratitude. Meaningful open ended questions will assist with creating positive financial visions for each participant. Individuals will respond with understanding their own self-generated explanation increasing commitment to their life changing financial success.

Human Services at the Hampton Public Library

Learn about how Human Services can help you and your family achieve independence! Meet with a representative to learn about federal and state benefits. Free & open to the public - Eligibility requirements apply. A representative from the Hampton Human Services Department will meet with citizens to discuss their needs and eligibility for benefits and services, including learning about obtaining an Assurance Wireless cell phone through the federal Lifeline Assistance program. An Eventbrite ticket is not required; the meetings are first come first served. Reserve a ticket if you would like to receive email reminders starting two days before.
