  1. VEER Music Awards

February 11, 2020, 7:30 PM @ The Vanguard Brewpub and Distillery

For the first time in its nine years, the Veer Music Awards will be held outside of Norfolk, this time in downtown Hampton’s The Vanguard. This year’s entertainment includes 10 bands, all playing Queen tributes. All three of the magazine’s Lifetime Achievement awards will go to Hampton musicians or bands, including Vaughn Deel and Don Butcher, who have run open-mic nights in Hampton for many years. Both are guitarists, songwriters, collaborators, encouragers and supporters of local music and musicians. The other award goes to MSG Acoustic Blues Trio, with Hampton residents Jackie Merritt and Ress Gibb, who perform traditional Piedmont blues and write original songs. The third member, Miles Spicer, lives in Maryland. Many Hampton artists and musicians who play in Hampton have been nominated for awards. The Vanguard is also nominated as a music venue. The city of Hampton is a sponsor of the event, hosted by Veer magazine.
