  1. Public input meeting on Parks Master Plan

    August 20, 2019, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM @ Hampton Roads Convention Center

The City of Hampton is seeking input, ideas, and dreams for the future of the Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services. The department is developing an updated Master Plan. If you have an interest in parks and recreation, we want to hear from you! If you are unable to attend the meeting, an online survey will be available. The Parks and Recreation Master Plan will look at the existing parks, recreational facilities, programs, and services, and will help guide the future of parks and recreation based on public input. The plan will prioritize the needs and desires for upgrading and improving parks, recreational facilities, amenities, programs, and services. The City of Hampton has hired GreenPlay, LLC, a nationally-known parks and recreation management consulting firm, to oversee the plan. If you have any questions regarding either the Parks and Recreation Master Plan or survey please contact Alison Eubank, Placemaking Planner, at or 757.728.5238.

    August 20, 2019, 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM @ Charles Taylor Visual Arts Center - Main Gallery

An exhibition in conjunction with the Hampton 1619 Commemoration Legacy and Stories is an exhibition of Hampton artists who use their creative medium to present narratives, accounts, and anecdotes which are historical, biographical, or autobiographical in nature. Some works in this exhibition are very personal while others tell more universal stories – some familiar, some new. From artist John J. Moore’s carved wood sculpture and dioramas depicting famous and infamous scenes that shaped African American history and culture to artist Anthony Hurt and artist, art educator, and musician Jackie Merritt who both bring their own unique stories and journeys into their creative expression. The Opening Reception will feature music and hands-on storytelling activities for the public. Legacy and Stories is a very special and important exhibition to begin our 2019-2020 Visual Arts Center Season.
