    The Buckroe Beach Farmers Market is open each Saturday, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., May 4 through Nov. 16. June 1 is a fitness market, Sept. 21 will be vintage-themed, and Oct. 19 is a pet market. Vendors will be located on the grassy area surrounding the Buckroe Beach gazebo and will sell local produce, baked goods, sausage, seafood, jarred food items and more.

  2. Hampton Heritage Day 2019

    Plan for a full day of traditional music, dance, storytelling, arts & crafts, family activities and more to commemorate the Native American, European and African cultures that formed our community and shaped our early history. The goal of Hampton Heritage Day is to broaden the story and provide a deeper context of the early formation of Hampton: to honor the Native American people who were already here long before the settlers arrived, as well as the Africans who arrived soon after in 1619 and helped build the city. This is a free family event sponsored by the National Park Service; Hampton Convention & Visitor Bureau; and Hampton Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services.

Citizens Unity Commission

  1. Nominate for Unity Awards

    Hampton’s Citizens’ Unity Commission is accepting applications for the 2019 Unity Awards, which will be presented on Friday, June 7, at 6:30 p.m. in The American Theatre, 125 E. Mellen St. The awards celebrate the accomplishments of the commission and acknowledge people who have made positive contributions toward diversity and inclusion in Hampton. To learn more about the commission, or to nominate an individual, business or initiative for the Unity Award, please visit www.hampton.gov/unity. The deadline for submissions is Monday, May 20.     "Civil War Journey" is an extraordinary touring exhibition organized by the Virginia Museum of History & Culture. Eyewitness accounts and images from the Civil War memoir of Union soldier, cartographer, and Confederate prisoner of war Robert Knox Sneden are showcased in an exhibition of 45 watercolor maps and drawings that provide a unique and mesmerizing perspective on the Civil War. The exhibit opens Nov. 3, 2018.

  2. That’s Funny: Art with a Sense of Humor

    Art doesn’t always have to be serious. It can also be funny, droll, comical, playful, silly, whimsical, farcical, witty, satirical or humorous. This group exhibition will present about 120 artworks in all media by the Gallery Manager’s invited artists whose works display a sense of humor. The curator may also consider artworks from other interested artists. Works will include a wide range of media in two, three or four dimensions including traditional art forms as well as cartoons, comic strips or books and videos.
