    This program takes place throughout the school year Monday-Friday, 2-6 p.m., at the Fort Monroe, West Hampton and Northampton community centers from Sept. 4-June 14. Participants receive homework assistance, play group games, and bond with friends in a safe, structured environment. Dinner and snack will be provided. Cost is $25 per week for Parks and Recreation members, and $35 per week for non-members.   1. ‘NASA: Hampton Takes Flight’ exhibit

    The story of Hampton’s leading role in aeronautics and space exploration is presented in the exhibit “NASA: Hampton Takes Flight.” In this update to the museum’s Hampton History Galleries, visitors can experience 100 years of NASA history from its early days as NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics) to the Space Race. The exhibit celebrates the NACA and NASA’s singular history and immeasurable contribution to the Hampton community. This installation features artifacts and images recently acquired from NASA Langley Research Center. This will be the first step in refreshing the museum’s 20th Century Galleries, and accompanies “When the Computer Wore a Skirt: NASA’s Human Computers,” that opened in January 2017.

    "Civil War Journey" is an extraordinary touring exhibition organized by the Virginia Museum of History & Culture. Eyewitness accounts and images from the Civil War memoir of Union soldier, cartographer, and Confederate prisoner of war Robert Knox Sneden are showcased in an exhibition of 45 watercolor maps and drawings that provide a unique and mesmerizing perspective on the Civil War. The exhibit opens Nov. 3, 2018.

Hampton History Museum

  1. Free Military Admission on Veterans Day Holiday, Monday, November 12

    Free admission to active duty, retired military, veterans, NASA employees and their families with ID in observance of the Veterans Day holiday, Monday, November 12. Visitors can explore over 400 years of the city’s past in the Hampton History Galleries, and view displays chronicling Hampton’s experiences during the American Revolution, War of 1812, Civil War, WW I & WWII and other conflicts, along with the special exhibits “When the Computer Wore a Skirt: NASA’s Human Computers” that tells the story behind the hit film and best-selling book Hidden Figures, along with “NASA: Hampton Takes Flight” which chronicles a century of contributions to aeronautics and space exploration made at the NASA Langley Research Center and its integral role in the Hampton community.
