    Join a walking tour to explore some of the unexplainable phenomena surrounding historic Fort Monroe. This year the tour will dive into the history and mystery of the buildings and grounds inside the stone fortress. Tours will feature the interiors of the Chapel of the Centurion and Quarters 15 next door to the Chapel. Rattling windows, late night footsteps, Civil War soldiers, bedside figures in the dark, broken grandfather clocks sounding in the dead of night and oddly coincidental fires: these are just a few of the encounters you will hear about when you join us for this year’s Fort Monroe Ghost Walk, Where History Meets Mystery. All ticket sales are final and there will be no refunds. Tours are rain or shine. This is an outdoor, walking tour about half a mile long lasting about an hour. Be advised that many areas and buildings at Fort Monroe are not handicapped accessible. This tour is not recommended for children under the age of 12. Ticket prices include processing fees.

Alice Coltrane’s celestial music provides the soundtrack for ONE, a mixed media piece that explores themes of love, loss and forgiveness. Spoken word comes alive in The King Project, where sermons about humanity are reimagined through dance. The final piece, A Little Mo Moses sets to movement the musical genius of James Brown and the social dance scenes from the 80s.

Artworks from all styles, genres, and media will be selected. This year, the Visual Arts Center is honored to welcome Jeffrey Allison, the Paul Mellon Collection educator at VMFA, as juror for the exhibition. Mr. Allison, also a professional photographer, received a BA in photography and film from Virginia Intermont College and an MFA in photography from VCU.

    Join us for the release of Jacob Vanko's first-full length album, "10 Years." This talented singer/songwriter was born and raised in the Anthracite Coal Region of Northeast Pennsylvania. The blue-collar towns of the once vibrant valley nestled in Pennsylvania’s slice of the Appalachian Mountains was a compelling backdrop for the young artist’s narrative and poetic songwriting style. An old soul at heart, Jacob found a sense of comfort in performing and writing. Learning to play blues and folk with his father while being influenced by classic rock and grunge made for a unique evolution in writing, composition and storytelling. Touching on observational themes from first-hand experiences brings a distinct intimacy to the songs audiences relate to and appreciate. Singer-songwriter Bob Lewis will be coming up from Nashville to open the show. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Proceeds benefit the museum.

    Each year the City of Hampton ushers in the fall season at the Bluebird Gap Farm Fall Festival. The festival offers a variety of children’s activities, hayrides, live entertainment, master gardening, punkin' chunkin', a straw maze, storytelling with a special appearance by Old MacDonald, plus the addition of a GIANT straw slide and much more. Entry and activities are free. Food, merchandise and pumpkins are available for purchase. Saturday, October 19 & 20, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Shuttle service will be provided both days to/from the Bass Pro Shop parking lot from 10:00am-5:00pm. *Pets are not permitted at Bluebird Gap Farm. But there are plenty of resident animals to greet you!
