1. Who should I call to report a missed bulk trash pick-up?

Call the 3-1-1 Customer Call Center. If you are calling from the City of Hampton, simply dial 3-1-1 on your touch tone or rotary dial phone. From outside the City of Hampton please dial (757) 727-8311. Call takers are available from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week to assist you.

2. What is my bulk trash collection day?

3. How are collections made when my scheduled day falls on a holiday?

If your scheduled collection day falls on a holiday, your garbage, bulk trash, bulk limbs, yard waste and tires will be collected on the Wednesday of that week. If your every other week recycling collection is scheduled on the holiday, it will also be collected on the Wednesday of that week. 5. What is bulk trash and when is it collected?

Bulk trash is large items that will not fit into your garbage container such as furniture, sofas, window air conditioners, appliances, and mattresses. Bulk trash is collected on the same day as your regular garbage.

6. Can I put out bags of loose trash to be picked up by the bulk trash truck?

No, because the collection claw will tear the bags and make a mess on your property. Loose bulk should be boxed up in a cardboard box for collection by the bulk truck.

7. Why can't I put out windows, doors with glass, window panes or glass shower doors out for collection?

The bulk collection truck will break the glass with the claw and create a hazard to the public. Put glass in a cardboard box and put it into your regular garbage container for collection. Any Hampton resident can take windows, doors with glass, window panes or glass shower doors to the landfill for disposal.

8. Can I put building materials out for bulk trash collection?

No, city ordinance prohibits the collection of building materials. Contractors are responsible for proper disposal of building materials from their work. Hampton residents can, with a building permit, dispose of up to 10 pick-up truck loads of building materials at the landfill.

9. When can I put bulk trash out for collection?

Bulk trash can be put curbside as early as 3 p.m. the day before your scheduled collection day. It needs to be curbside by 7 a.m. to insure you will receive prompt service.

10. Should I put my bulk trash in a particular place at the curb?

Bulk trash should be placed so that it is not under low power lines, not blocked by vehicles or poles, and not near fences or mailboxes that can be damaged during collection.

11. Why do I need to provide space between my bulk trash and other items out for collection?

Each item is collected by a different vehicle and the bulk trash collection arm may damage other items or your property if they are too close together.

12. Do I have to take the door off my refrigerator or freezer for bulk trash collection?

Yes, for safety reasons the door or lock must be removed. Also, do not put any items or garbage in the appliance as they are processed to recycle the metal in them.

13. What about the refrigerant in air conditioners, freezers, or refrigerators?

All Freon and other refrigerants must be removed from these items before collection by you or a certified contractor. This requirement is part of the federal Clean Air Act and carries stiff penalties if violated.

14. Where is the city landfill?

The city landfill is located on North Park Lane off Big Bethel Road near TNCC. It is open to the citizens of Hampton for the disposal of bulky trash. Building materials may only be disposed of at the landfill with a valid building permit issued by the City of Hampton. The hours of operation are from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday with the landfill being closed on Sundays.
