[ARCHIVED] Free voter ID card available at Registrar's office

July 1, 2014 - Starting Tuesday, July 1, anyone who wants to vote in Virginia must have a valid photo identification card. Any Hampton resident who doesn’t have a valid ID can get one for free at the Voter Registrar’s office.

State law says a valid photo ID can include: a Virginia driver’s license, DMV-issued ID, valid U.S. passport, employee ID, college or university student ID, any other government-issued photo ID.

In order to get a free photo ID, Hampton residents must:
1. Go to the Registrar’s office at 1919 Commerce Drive, suite 280 (located between Convention Drive and Motel Road)
2. Fill out a photo ID application, affirming that they do not have any of the acceptable IDs listed above.

The new photo identification is good for voting purposes only. For more information, contact the Registrar’s office at 757-727-6218 or go to www.hampton.gov/voter
