Sept. 25, 2023 - City Council will meet Wednesday to talk about programs and activities designed to offer alternatives to violence, drugs, and gang involvement; address trauma; and support to people leaving incarceration.

The afternoon work session at 1 p.m. will focus on the Youth and Young Adult Opportunities Office, which connects Hampton families and neighborhoods with resources that improve well-being and safety From community engagement to family services. The staff will recap the results of programs from the past year and share plans for this fiscal year.

At 6 p.m., the Council Spotlight will recognize several volunteers of the Mayors Book Club who read to children, promote early literacy, and put on an annual book fair that drew more than 600 attendees this year.

In the 6:30 p.m. business meeting, there will be two public hearing items: a review of three programs funded by the Housing and Urban Development Department. Council will also consider standardizing processes for boards and commissions.

All meetings are open to the public and held in Council Chambers on the 8th floor of City Hall, 22 Lincoln St. They will be televised live on Cox 47 and Verizon 22 and streamed at hampton.gov/livetv.
