[ARCHIVED] NASA taps Air, Space center for technology grant

Dec. 19, 2013 - The Virginia Air and Space Center in Hampton is one of 10 organizations recently selected by NASA to share in a $7.7 million grants program designed to attract more students to careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM.

The organizations will use the money to create interactive exhibits, virtual worlds, professional development activities and community-based programs to engage students, teachers and the public in STEM. "VASC is looking forward to implementing this grant that will allow the Center to serve more students and teachers with NASA STEM education content," said Brian DeProfio, Interim Director at the Center.

Sixty-seven proposals from institutions in 31 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, applied for the program and underwent a merit-based peer review process.
