[ARCHIVED] Closings announced for Saturday, Jan. 29, in advance of storm

Closings & Cancellations

Jan. 28, 2022 — Local and state emergency officials are urging people to stay at home, especially until roads are cleared, and to use caution with bitter cold temperatures this weekend. These closings have been announced:

  • Hampton will close community and recreational facilities Saturday: Parks, including Bluebird Gap Farm; libraries; community centers; pools; the Hampton History Museum; and Air Power Park.
  • The Hampton landfill and city's yard waste site will both be closed on Saturday.
  •  Hampton Roads Transit will suspend all services — bus, light rail, paratransit and ferry — on Saturday.
  • The Hampton and Peninsula Health districts' community testing and vaccination centers will close over the weekend in anticipation of the predicted winter storm. They are scheduled to reopen on Monday morning at the Sherwood Shopping Center in Newport News (13785 Warwick Blvd.).
  • The second day of local sports legend Francena McCorory's invitational track meet at the Boo Williams Sportsplex is canceled. The competitions scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 29, will be held Feb. 21.

Watch the city's Facebook page for additional closings or weather updates.
