Dec. 8, 2021 — City Council unanimously passed a resolution thanking Councilwoman Chris Snead for her service, as she prepares to begin her third career with the city.

Snead has won three elections to City Council since 2012. Prior to that, she worked as a staff member for the city for 34 years. After winning the election for city treasurer in November, she will begin that position Jan. 1, 2022.

Snead said that she was honored to have the opportunity to serve the city in this third role. "Thank you for putting your trust and faith in me," she told city residents. She said it will be difficult to leaver her peers on council. Residents are "very fortunate" to have these hard-working council members and asked residents to know that they "have a genuine love for this city." Whether residents agree or disagree with particular votes, "this body has your best interests at heart," she said.

Snead brought her budget experience and financial acuity to her role on City Council. As budget director, she was involved in City Manager Mary Bunting’s “I Value” program, which solicits citizen priorities before developing a budget proposal. As a member of Council, she continued to be a champion for that process. She has been a proponent of building the city’s tax base and improving infrastructure in order to sustain the city’s future and generate revenue for other projects.

She has also served on various regional groups, including Virginia First Cities; the finance and legislative committees for the Virginia Municipal League; the Hampton Roads Regional Jail Committee; the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel Commission’s Finance and Renewable Energy and Tolling Committees; and the City of Hampton’s Finance Committee.
