[ARCHIVED] Choose Hampton Holiday Video

Phoebus chose hampton

Collaborating with business and community leaders inside and outside of the classroom is the new normal for the Academies of Hampton students. Through project-based learning and challenge-based learning experiences, academy students apply academic and technical knowledge to create real-world solutions and possibilities. Collaborating with business and community leaders provides knowledge and career opportunities that support the work-based continuum and put students on a path to career and college readiness.

To showcase their talents, students in the academy of Digital Video and Production created a promotional commercial featuring several business and community partners highlighting “Choose Hampton.” Mr. Price, Academy Instructor at Phoebus High School, facilitated the project for his Television and Media Production senior class. The academy students demonstrated the integration of academic, technical, and research skills needed to problem-solve, collaborate, and communicate. Over the past three years, academy students have been preparing to apply learned knowledge and skills as they developed, produced, and edited the “Choose Hampton” production.

The “Choose Hampton'' production features five business partners: Got Fish? Seafood, Flawless Fitness, Inc., Scratch Bakery, Pawsitive Vibes Pet Retreat, and Yard Card Clizkz. Each business expressed interest in brand awareness and increasing sales. The academy students scheduled an initial meeting with business and community leaders to discuss production outcomes. The planning stage presented the first challenge where all business leaders could not meet at the same time and all wanted something different. The next challenge was to write a persuasive script that would highlight the benefits of “Choosing Hampton”.  As academy students worked to coordinate duties and deadlines, the facilitator monitored their progress and made travel arrangements to visit businesses to film footage. While the academy students made it look fun, hard work was definitely the driving factor behind their success!
