[ARCHIVED] New ordinance requires minimum green area for street frontage yards of residences

10-econ-neigh

Jan. 4, 2021 - Effective Dec. 9, a new city ordinance requires a minimum green area for street frontage yards of residential properties. The ordinance also requires both commercial and residential property owners to get a zoning permit before adding any impervious areas to their land - this includes driveways, walkways, decks, and any material that significantly impedes or prevents natural infiltration of water (concrete, gravel, rocks, etc.) There is no change in the amount of green area required for commercial properties. Hampton’s Online Permit & Inspections Center lets you go online to apply for permits, request inspections, check the status of your inspection request, and pay associated fees - 24 hours a day - from any computer or mobile device. Once you fill out the application, you can send it to DSCPermits@hampton.gov. You can also go online to see a graphic displaying the changes.
