Mayors online forum Thursday provides chance to ask about coronavirus, precautions

corona-updates-nf

Nov. 17, 2020 - COVID-19 cases are increasing, cold weather is driving gatherings indoors, the holidays are coming and Virginia is under new restrictions.  What does it all mean?

Ask your questions at a Mayor's Forum on Thursday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m., broadcast live on the city's Facebook page. Mayor Donnie Tuck, City Manager Mary Bunting and a representative from the Virginia Department of Health will answer your questions, about what the city is doing, about transmission of the virus, about how to be as safe as possible.

Virginia's new cases are not increasing as much they are in the Midwest. And Hampton's rate of cases, adjusted for population, are not as bad as what areas in the Southwestern part of the state are seeing.

But they are increasing here.  The seven-day average for the region as defined by the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission has seen an increase in cases of about 80 percent increase from a month ago, yet that's still more than 50 percent below the highs we experienced in late July.

“Everyone is tired of this pandemic and restrictions on our lives," said Gov. Ralph Northam. "I’m tired, and I know you are tired too. But as we saw earlier this year, these mitigation measures work. I am confident that we can come together as one Commonwealth to get this virus under control and save lives.”
