Apply to help at polls for next election

Become a Poll Worker

Aug. 14, 2020 — The City of Hampton Voter Registrar’s Office is looking for election officials to work during the presidential election on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020.

Elections officials work at a precinct on election day to ensure accurate election results and equal access to voting. They also provide necessary assistance to individual voters who need help.

Workers need to be at their assigned precinct at 5 a.m. and stay until results are compiled, usually between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. They are paid $125 for the day, and first-time officials are paid $25 for attending a three-hour training session.

Many of Hampton’s longtime election officials are senior citizens who are stepping down, and new officials are needed. Officials are behind plexiglass screens and precautions are taken to minimize the risk of contracting the coronavirus.
