Parks and Rec cancels fall youth and adult sports due to COVID-19

July 30, 2020 - Due to the ongoing risk and uncertainty of COVID-19, Hampton Parks, Recreation & Leisure Services is canceling the department’s fall sports programs for the 2020 season.  That decision is based on guidance from the Virginia Governor’s Office, Virginia High School League, the Centers for Disease Control, and others.

This includes youth tackle football, adult softball, and adult basketball, all of which will be offered tentatively in the spring of 2021, pending further guidance.  The department continues to maintain and rent fields for team conditioning and practice (no competition play or tournaments at this time).

As a reminder, teams using the fields for practice are required to maintain at least 10 feet of social distancing between players (as well as those on sidelines), with no sharing of equipment.  Practices where 10 feet of physical distancing cannot be sustained must not take place, unless the drills can be modified to allow for distance.

Questions may be directed to the City’s Athletics Office at (757) 726-8750 or the 311 Citizen Contact Center.
