[ARCHIVED] Outside the Box: 180 years of American Cigar Box Music - Facebook Live, Wednesday, July 15, 7 pm!

Square NF Carson and CBG

Join us for our first virtual Front Porch Music Series Event on the Hampton History Museum’s Facebook page!

Homemade instruments have been played in Virginia since the earliest days of our country, but it was the lowly wooden cigar box that became part of a folk music tradition, beginning before the Civil War, continuing through the Depression, and having a revival today. Join historian Carson Hudson for this unique Facebook Live event as he explains and performs Cigar Box music!

As much as we would love to see you at the museum in person for our regular Front Porch Music Series, we are moving toward this virtual experience for the next few months. We hope that you enjoy these hybrid performance/talks to learn more behind the instruments and music that have influenced the American soundscape. Be sure to tune in to these Facebook Live events on our page each Third Wednesday at 7 pm. These events will later be accessible on our YouTube playlist and www.hamptonhistorymuseum.org. We look forward to presenting our live, third Wednesday concerts, at our regular time, when conditions allow.
