July 1, 2020 - Hampton has seen an uptick in the number of COVID cases. In the past seven days, 60 cases have been reported in the city. The average of the previous four weeks was 23 cases — less than half of what the city has seen this week, according to Virginia Health Department data. 

Residents are reminded to remain vigilant — wash or sanitize hands frequently; wear a mask inside buildings open to the public; and stay away from large gatherings. Especially during the long holiday weekend, please celebrate with safety in mind. As Hampton moves into Phase Three of lifting safety restrictions, it will do so more slowly than originally planned. For now:

• Community and Neighborhood Centers will remain closed as of July 2 for at least a few weeks while we watch the coronavirus data. that includes fitness activities, pools, and camps.
• Playgrounds will remain closed, as there is no way to sanitize them between uses or to keep children from close contact with each other.
• is Saturday only, the Buckroe Farmer’s Market will be closed.  Schedule will resume next Saturday, 9:00am-1:00pm.
• Hampton Clean City Committee activities will resume operations beginning July 6.
• All city beaches are open to the public.
• Buckroe Beach and Park will remain open, but there is no shelter rental. 
• The Buckroe Farmer’s Market will be closed on July 4; will resume on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. after.
• Parks continue to be open to the public. Residents are reminded to practice social distancing by staying 6 feet away from each other. Campsite, yurt, kayak, and boat rentals will be open starting July 6. 
• Reservations for shelters other than Buckroe will be accepted beginning July 6.
• Bluebird Gap Farm remains open.
• Basketball and volleyball courts will remain closed.
• Athletic fields will be open for practice or family use; no competitions. Golf courses and the tennis center are open.
• Libraries will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1-5 p.m. on Saturdays. Curbside service will be offered Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m.-10 a.m. (excluding July 3 and 4).
• The Charles H. Taylor Visual Art Center galleries remain closed but may be open for some classes.
• The Hampton History Museum is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m., except Sundays and Wednesdays, which are 1 p.m.-4 p.m. (including the holiday).
• The Hampton Carousel will remain closed because disinfectants can damage the surfaces.
• The Treasurer’s  and Commissioner of the Revenue’s offices are open regular hours. DMV Select services are available by appointment only.
• City Hall and other main offices will be open to the public from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. to allow staff time to clean and prepare the buildings for the next day.
• The Community Development Department’s permits area will open earlier than most offices.
• Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter is open regular hours. 
• Human Services/Social Services is open regular hours.
• Hampton Roads Transit has resumed regular bus and light rail service, but social distancing requires some seats to be left empty.
• Permit applications will be accepted beginning July 6 for Special Events that are not open to the public and have fewer than 250 attendees (reunions, weddings, etc.).  All other special events are canceled until further notice, including the Crabtown Seafood Festival in August and the Bluebird Gap Farm Festival in October.  
• Peninsula Pilots games and Langley Speedway have resumed, under special state guidance for sports arenas.

Visitors are reminded that masks must be worn in the common areas of all city buildings.
