Help Keep Buckroe Beach Park Clean & Beautiful

You might have seen a news segment about litter at Buckroe Beach on WAVY TV on Wednesday evening. Litter is a problem EVERYWHERE, but it’s particularly insidious when it occurs alongside waterways. When people litter on the beach, it’s literally straight from their hands to the Bay, which is terrible for water quality, marine life, and the people who love our waterways and our water adjacent community. It’s horrible that people litter, and we try to get them to put trash where it belongs, but regardless, we still have this littering problem.

We need your help. Would you be willing to help with the litter situation at Buckroe Beach Park? Here are ways you can help:

  • Volunteer to pick up litter on Monday mornings at the Beach (more details available upon stepping up) to help clear away weekend litter – sign up at hccc@hampton.gov

  • Take a trash bag with you whenever you go to Buckroe Beach and pick up litter while you’re there, every bag of litter picked up is a bag of litter not polluting our waterways and beach – take a picture of you cleaning up and share with us – we’ll post it on social media to recognize your efforts!

  • Join the Facebook Group Keep Buckroe Beach Clean to express your support for litter prevention efforts at Buckroe Beach – this is a private group that is not affiliated with the City of Hampton or the Hampton Clean City Commission, but we share their mission

  • If you’re a member of an Adopt-A-Spot group, schedule a time to clean up at Buckroe Beach, especially just after the weekend

We welcome your suggestions about how to address litter at Buckroe Beach, and really anywhere in Hampton. We’re trying to find the key to preventing littering behavior. Maybe your idea will be part of the solution.

Thank you for all you do to keep our city clean and beautiful!
