March 26, 2020 - It’s not too late to help. Working with the Virginia Peninsula Food Bank and the United Way, the City of Hampton is sponsoring “Fill That Bus, Hampton!” a community-wide drive to collect non-perishable food items, diapers, infant formula and cleaning supplies for seniors, children and other Hampton residents in need during the coronavirus crisis.

The city will partner with several support agencies to accept donations from 3-6 p. m. Monday-Friday, March 23-31, at three host sites:

  • Northampton Community Center, 1435-A Todds Lane
  • West Hampton Community Center, 1638 Briarfield Road
  • Fort Monroe Community Center, 100 Stillwell Road

Items will be collected using “drop & go” boxes at each site using a “car to car” service to ensure social distancing and personal safety for donors and city employees. Donated items will be stored by the city for a time as an additional safety measure against potential surface viruses until they can be given to the Food Bank, Hampton’s Healthy Families office, and other local agencies.

A priority will be given to helping the most vulnerable in the community, including seniors, the homeless and children. The most needed items include non-perishables and baby items.

“Fill That Bus, Hampton” is being coordinated by the Citizens’ Unity Commission and the 2020 Census Committee, with help from the Park, Recreation & Leisure Services Department, the Department of Human Services, Healthy Families and other city offices.
