[ARCHIVED] March 30-April 3 will be Youth Violence Prevention Week in Hampton

Group of Youth

March 4, 2020 - Community building, employment, alternatives to incarceration, and family support are just some of the topics that will be discussed March 30-April 3 during the 2020 Hampton Youth Violence Prevention Week. The week will serve as a kick-off for a host of activities throughout the year.

Hampton native and NFL quarterback Tyrod Taylor will be on a panel Tuesday designed to empower and encourage young people. Although seats are limited, that panel is open to the public.

Other scheduled events include a panel Monday with millennials who are executives or run businesses or charitable programs;  a family fitness and wellness night, a community discussion about gun violence, and an arts project Friday that’s part of Unite in Action Day!

As part of a kick-off message, Mayor Donnie Tuck said: "The causes of violence are so vast that solving the problem of youth violence requires a broad view and collaborative work across the community." Youth Violence Prevention Week is supported by a number of organizations, including cities united, the Peninsula Baptist Association and the Hampton Roads City Network.  More information.
