[ARCHIVED] Public Works, emergency officials monitoring the weather amid snow forecast

Feb. 19, 2020 - Hampton officials - including police, firefighters and emergency management staff - are closely monitoring weather conditions amid reports that 2-3 inches of snow could accumulate in the area starting Thursday afternoon.

The city’s Public Works Department activated the Storm Response Center Wednesday, and more than 200 employees are available for winter storm response. The center is designed to manage all storm activity and track the city’s response throughout any storm.

Hampton has 1,200 tons of salt, 45,000 gallons of brine and 9,000 gallons of calcium chloride available to use on roads and city sidewalks. Hampton also has 45 pieces of equipment available for snow removal, including plows, spreaders, brine dispensers and loaders.

Public Works began pre-treating designated roads, bridges and overpasses with brine Wednesday, and workers will start 12-hour shifts Thursday at 7 a.m. Residents are encouraged to continue following local news reports and watch for updates on the city’s website at www.hampton.gov.
