Jan. 10, 2020 - Local advocates for mental health and modern-era trailblazers in public service will be honored on Monday, Jan. 20, at the Hampton Heroes Memorial Plaza. First dedicated in 2019, the Martin Luther King Jr. and Hampton Heroes Memorial Plaza is located in front of the Hampton Roads Convention Center. It pays tribute to the national civil rights leader and to people who worked for civil rights and social justice in Hampton.

Honorees embodied the spirit of doing for others, of changing the landscape to help the city become more just and kind, and of shattering barriers and opening doors. The Plaza was designed to be a living memorial, with new stories to be added.

The dedication this year will be on Monday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. inside the Convention Center.
