Returning for its 5th year, this popular event hosted by Reginald Robinson and Judy Leonard offers up a great evening of nostalgia and memories of the premier seaside resort for African-Americans during the Jim Crow Era. Hear stories from special guest famed musician Chuck “Guitar” Chavis, and other luminaries. Check out great photos and artifacts from this beloved ocean paradise, and peruse limited edition souvenirs. This event is always standing room only! Arrive early to join the fun! The 5th annual BayShore at Buckroe Beach event "Hot Fun In The Summertime" A evening with Chuck ”Guitar" Chavis. Will be presented at the Hampton History Museum located at 120 Old Hampton Lane in beautiful downtown Hampton VA on Saturday September 21,2019 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Admission to the event is free, but due to the increasing popularity of the event and this year's guest speaker seating will be limited, at the 5th annual BayShore at Buckroe Beach event there will be a plethora of rare and vintage BayShore Beach artifacts on display, along with hundreds of photos to give those in attendance what we like to call the BayShore Experience.

Our program begins with a selection from the writings of Helen Steiner Rice,that is followed by the announcing of names accompanied by the tolling of the bell, and then we have the invocation. We begin our event with a short skit to entertain the audience,next our host will be discussing the history of BayShore and it's connection to music,and there will be a video tribute to the driving force and inspiration for all our past,present and future events Mrs Virginia Lee Robinson.

There will be a unveiling of 2 more portraits of notable Hamptonians into the ever growing BayShore portrait gallery, and we hope to have the artist on hand to assist in the unveiling. Up next will be the BayShore at Buckroe Beach Hall of Fame induction ceremonies for 2019, this year's class of 2019 consist of. Hampton University formerly Hampton Institute. The Benevolent Protective Order of The Richmond Reindeer Club. Elke B. Mitchell administrative assistant for the Hampton History Museum.Martha F. Morris professor and guru of Buckrology. Zenobia H. Jones, former house keeper at the BayShore Hotel,and operator of the Dance Pavilion and Grill and niece of Charles and Alma Williams.Manager of the BayShore Hotel Rufus McHern. The Steiffen Bros, former owners of the amusement park at Buckroe Beach.Up next we present The Charles H. Williams Award of Leadership,former recipients of the Charles H. Williams Award Of Leadership are Mrs Laura Sandford owner of Robert's Antiques located in Phoebus and the Honorable Dr. Mary T. Christian.

This year being our 3rd year of presenting the Charles H. Williams award of leadership we are truly honored to present the award to Dr. C. N. Fairfax. Before beginning the evening's festivities there will be commemorative tickets given to those attending the event at the door for a chance to win fabulous prizes, and like seating the tickets will be limited in number, but the event is still free.

Finally we reach the highlight of the evening as we introduce our guest speaker the legendary Chuck "Guitar" Chavis,as he shares with all in attendance his personal memories and stories of his travels and his time spent on the road with various other musical icons, such as Sam Cooke,Ike and Tina Turner, Bobby Womack and many other music legends including The Enchanters, his stint as the lead guitarist with his band the Rockin Cabanas once Otis Redding's touring back-up band, and most of all his headlining at BayShore's Dance Pavilion. And yes the legend will be taking your questions. So there you have it my fellow Bayshorians from top to bottom the 5th annual BayShore at Buckroe Beach event. "Hot fun in the Summertime" An Enchanting evening with Chuck "Guitar" Chavis! At the Hampton History Museum from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and again the event is FREE, but seating will be limited!
