[ARCHIVED] Emergency officials want residents to "be prepared, not scared' during hurricane season

Sept. 1, 2019 – Be prepared, not scared. That’s the message for the month of September, National Preparedness Month, from FEMA, Ready.gov, and Hampton’s Emergency Management Office. The goal is to promote disaster and emergency planning now and throughout the year. While the Atlantic hurricane season starts in May, September is the most active month during hurricane season, which ends Nov. 30.

Each week has a special theme. During week 1 (Sept. 1-7), the theme is Save Early for Disaster Costs. In Week 2 (Sept. 8-14), the theme is Make a Plan to Prepare for Disasters. In Week 3 (Sept. 15-21), the theme is Teach Youth to prepare for Disasters. And during week 4 (Sept. 22-30), the theme is Get Involved in Your Community’s Preparedness.
