Aug. 27, 2019 - Volunteers are encouraged to join in the "Reading of the Names” beginning at 8:30 a.m.  Wednesday, Sept. 11 at Gosnold’s Hope Park, 901 E. Little Back River Road in Hampton. Volunteers will gather to read aloud the names of all those who were lost in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, and the names of fallen heroes in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This event continues a tradition that dates back to more formal Days of Remembrance and Hope ceremonies held from Dec. 11, 2001, to Sept. 11, 2014, and more intimate events in recent years.  Reading the names is simple, yet somber. Each volunteer will pick up a sheet or sheets of paper with the names of the fallen and read them aloud. Names are not duplicated on multiple sheets. So, each reader has a solemn duty to read the names they have been provided.
