July 31, 2019 - Virginia's three-day sales tax holiday - where everything from school supplies to portable generators can be purchased without paying a sales tax - starts Friday, Aug. 2, and ends Sunday, Aug. 4. This is your chance to prepare for school - or the fall hurricane season. Go online to see a list of items that you can buy tax-free.

“We want to remind all Virginians about the upcoming sales tax holiday because it only happens once each year,” said Secretary of Finance Aubrey Layne. “This tax-free weekend benefits both consumers and retailers and provides a great opportunity to purchase necessary products without paying state and local sales tax.”

Hampton's Emergency Management Office said: "As we get closer to the period of time during hurricane season where the Atlantic becomes more active, please take the time if you haven't already to assembly your disaster supply kit for you and your families."

You can go online to see a list of school supplies and other items that can be purchased. You can also go online to learn more about creating a family disaster plan and about local evacuation during a disaster.
