[ARCHIVED] Police awards ceremony held Monday at Fort Monroe to honor fallen, distinguished officers

May 13, 2019 - Hampton Police held their 2019 Honor Awards and Police Memorial Ceremony Monday morning at the Fort Monroe Theater. The ceremony, attended by an estimated 150 people, paid tribute to law enforcement officers who have made the supreme sacrifice, and to present awards to officers who have distinguished themselves in the line of duty. Hampton's fallen officers are Kenneth E. Wallace, Mark C. DeCuypere and Ralph K. Ghivizanni. Chief Terry Sult talked about the challenges facing officers today, and the need to partner with other agencies and community members. Also Monday, more than 30 Hampton officers received a number of awards, including Lifesaving, Meritorious Service, and the P.G. Minetti Excellence in Leadership award.
