[ARCHIVED] Sign up for Citizen Police Academy and get to know officers and their jobs

police patch 2017

March 8, 2019 — Learn more about patrolling Hampton's streets and keeping residents safe in the Citizen Police Academy. Sign up by March 20 for the 12-week program, designed to teach residents about the mission, policies, and day-to-day operations of the Police Division.

Classes for this session are weekly on Mondays, 5:30-8:30 p.m., from April 1 through June 17. The program is free for adults who live or work in Hampton.

The course includes discussions about ethics, laws, community-oriented policing, officer safety techniques and much more. The larger goal is to improve communication between citizens and police and dispel misconceptions the community may have about the police. Academy students will gain a fuller understanding of policies and laws that affect police officers' decisions.

Download an application online. For more information, call the Community Relations Unit at (757) 810-6683 or email kroane@hampton.gov.
