April 4, 2019 - Hampton's 2019 Commemorative Commission invites quilters nationwide to take part in the Hampton 2019 400 Year Legacy Quilt, commemorating 400 years since the first African landing at Point Comfort in Fort Monroe. Quilters are invited to submit a 10-1/2 inch square that depicts the history and the 400-year impact of African Americans in the United States. Quilters can enter up to two squares each.

Members of the 54-40 African American Quilting Guild of Hampton will select the most compelling squares for inclusion in the 400 year legacy quilt, which be on display during 2019 Commemorations Aug. 23-25 in Hampton.

All squares must be completed and mailed or brought to the Hampton 2019 Commemorative Commission, c/o Hampton Convention & Visitor Bureau, 1919 Commerce Drive, Suite 290, Hampton Va., by June 1, 2019. Call 800-487-8778 or 757-722-1222 for questions about the quilt. Get more information about the Commemorative Commission by visiting www.hamptonVA2019.com.
