inspections

Jan. 8, 2019 - Starting Jan. 24, Hampton’s Community Development Department will offer a free, six-week education series designed to give citizens and community leaders a better understanding of the community development process and code enforcement activities.

Participants in the Codes Academy will spend two hours a week exploring everything from the goal of codes enforcement and limits of government enforcement power, to the importance of zoning, when use permits are needed, various agencies and roles, and the process for “how stuff gets built.”

Classes will be held on Thursdays, Jan. 24, Jan. 31, Feb. 7, Feb. 14, Feb. 21 and Feb. 28, from 6-8 p.m. Locations will vary.

At the end of the academy, participants will be able to help neighbors understand the codes process, improve their community through competency in codes and permits, and accurately identify and report property maintenance and zoning violations.

Registration is available online and will close on Jan. 22nd. For additional information on the Codes Academy, go online or contact Darren Robinson, drobinson@hampton.gov, or Marcie Spragan, mspragan@hampton.gov, or call 727-6140.
