Oct. 4, 2018 - Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam announced Thursday that the state has awarded $6 million in school security equipment grants to protect students and teachers at the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind and 102 school divisions statewide. Hampton City Schools will get $100,000 to help the district "purchase the improvements and technology needed," said James Lane, state superintendent of public instruction. That could include video monitoring systems, metal detectors, classroom locks, visitor identification systems and other security upgrades.
