[ARCHIVED] Compensation During Inclement Weather Events

Storm Updates

September 14, 2019 - Message from Nicole Clark, Director of Human Resources

As a follow up to the City Manager’s message yesterday, compensation during inclement weather is as follows:

Non-Exempt Essential Employees working during the City closure will receive pay for their regularly scheduled shift and the equivalent of time off with pay on an hour-for-hour basis for actual hours worked.

Exempt Essential Employees working during the City closure customarily do not receive any additional compensation or time off with pay, however, the City Manager has authorized the equivalent of time off with pay for any hours worked in excess of forty.

Non-Essential Employees (Exempt and Non-Exempt, Permanent Full-Time, Permanent Part-Time, and When Actually Employed) will receive their regular rate of pay for any scheduled hours during the period of City closure.  Non-Essential Employees on approved leave during the period of City closure will be charged for any leave in excess of the period of City closure.

Essential and Non-Essential Employees who are not scheduled nor designated to work during the period of City closure will not receive pay or the equivalent of time off.

Non-Exempt Essential Kronos Users should continue to “punch” as normal to record any hours worked during the period of City closure.

Departments Using Kronos: Linda Long will provide instructions on entering City Closure hours, equivalent time off with pay and/or adjusting leave balances.

For additional information regarding the policy, please refer to Chapter 5, Section XXI of the Personnel Policies Manual.

Thank you.
