Sly Clyde Ciderworks grand opening is set for Saturday, starting at 11 a.m.

Aug. 23, 2018 - Sly Clyde Ciderworks in Phoebus, which promises  "delicious hard ciders, craftily crushed from 100% Virginia apples," will have a grand opening starting at 11 a.m. Saturday morning.

Just over a year ago, brothers Tim and Doug Smith announced plans to build the cidery at 207 East Mellon St. in a historic brick house that their family has owned for a century. Today, Sly Clyde's website boasts of "crafting the best hard cider in Hampton Roads just a block from the Chesapeake Bay at one of Virginia's only urban farm cideries."

Sly Clyde is named after Tim and Doug's grandfather, H. Clyde Smith. According to their website: "he was a mortician whose calm demeanor and wicked sense of humor kept them laughing as kids. He loved a good story and had a sly smile that made you realize that he had a few secrets about life that he was waiting for you to learn."
