Sept. 3, 2018 - September is National Preparedness Month, and Hampton's Emergency Management Office is encouraging you to consider how prepared you are for the next disaster or emergency that affects where you live, work or visit.

The theme for 2018 is "Disasters happen. Prepare now. Learn How." Each week in September, a different theme will be highlighted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency:

  • Sept. 1-8: Make and Practice Your Plan (sign up for alerts and warning in your area and learn your evacuation zone)
  • Sept. 9-15: Learn Life Saving skills (know basic home maintenance, how to mitigate your home against flood damage, and more)
  • Sept. 15: National Day of Action (go online to sign up for preparedness briefings, download the FEMA app, learn what disasters could affect your area, find activities happening near you and read stories about individuals and communities that are preparing for emergencies)
  • Sept. 16-22: Check Your Insurance Coverage (Don't stop there. You can also review your documents and visit www.Floodsmart.gov to learn more about flood insurance and how to protect your home or business)
  • Sept. 23-29: Save For An Emergency (Plan financially for the possibility of a disaster)
