[ARCHIVED] Celebrate breastfeeding, get parenting support topics at Aug. 2 event

July 26, 2018 - Breastfeeding offers benefits for both mother and baby, and Hampton wants to join the World Health Organization in drawing attention to the benefits and support families during World Breastfeeding Week, Aug. 1-7.

Join Hampton's WIC program and the Health Department to get information and support for breastfeeding Thursday, Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to noon at Hampton Healthy Families, 100 Hampton Lane. The event will gather many family resources and offer resources on lactation, nutrition and also information about other parenting topics, such as immunizations, parenting classes and car seats.

According to the WHO, breastfeeding is the best way to provide infants with the nutrients they need. WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding starting within one hour after birth until a baby is 6 months old. Nutritious complementary foods should then be added while continuing to breastfeed for up to 2 years or beyond.
