May 31, 2018 - The tall ship "Adventure," named after the flagship used by the pirate Blackbeard in the early 1700s, is now docked downtown and will serve as a living history exhibit during and after the Blackbeard Festival  on Saturday and Sunday, June 2 and 3.

The Adventure is a working reproduction of a 65-foot Colonial trade ship. It is being renamed by Blackbeard's Crew Incorporation of Hampton, a group of unpaid volunteers dedicated to  preserving the skills and talents of the 18th century mariner. Their goal is for the ship to serve as a focal point for tourism and economic development in the city, providing a visible link to the city's rich maritime heritage and an educational platform for children, adults and families.

Now that the ship is in Hampton, Blackbeard's Crew hopes to continue retrofitting work here in Hampton while dressed in 18th Century maritime clothing.
