[ARCHIVED] More Volunteers Needed to Keep Bay Days Litter Free!

Volunteers at 2012 Bay Days

The Hampton Clean City Commission needs more volunteers to help with keeping Bay Days litter-free, September 6 - 8! If you have some free time to help, here are the times we need you:

Friday: 12 – 4; 4 – 8; and 8 – 11

Saturday: 6 – 10 a.m.; 10 – 2; 2- 6; 6 – 11

Sunday: 12 – 3

Go to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4DABA923ABFE3-baydays and look for the trash cleanup slots during these times to sign up.

Why is it important to keep Bay Days litter free? The biggest reason we’re trying so hard is that all the litter that falls to the ground during Bays Days is just a few feet away from our waterways and storm drains, and could soon be on its way to the Chesapeake Bay. In addition, when people see litter on the ground, it triggers a littering impulse in them. That’s on top of the fact that people tend to think that special events like festivals, games, and other large gatherings present a license to litter – HELLO, they DON’T!

So enjoy Bay Days while doing something important for the Chesapeake Bay AND our city. If you can’t help, but plan to enjoy the festival, do us a favor and keep it clean! We hope to see you there!
