[ARCHIVED] Hampton renames public safety building in honor of former Police Chief Pat Minetti

Pat Minetti joined the Hampton Police Division as a patrolman in 1955. He rose through the ranks and spent 45 years with the division, 29 years as chief.
The resolution passed unanimously. When it was announced by City Manager Mary Bunting, the proposal received a lengthy standing ovation from the filled-to-capacity audience in Council Chambers.
"He energized the cooperation and involvement of the community in developing and implementing dozens of successful, and frequently emulated, crime fighting and crime prevention programs," according to the resolution. "Under Chief Minetti's leadership, the Hampton Police Division became one of the finest and most highly respected police departments in the country."
The resolution also cited Minetti's "dedication, commitment, loyalty, steadfastness, expertise, wisdom, consummate professionalism, and unwavering service to the citizens of the City of Hampton" in renaming the building at 40 Lincoln St. as the Pat G. Minetti Public Safety Building.
