[ARCHIVED] Wax Myrtle Harvesting & Potting Volunteers Needed August 19 & 20!

In a continuation of a project started last April, volunteers are needed to harvest air-layered wax myrtles from Sandy Bottom Nature Park on August 19th, and then to pot harvested wax myrtles at Bluebird Gap Farm on August 20th. Both events start at 9 a.m. and continue to completion. The potted wax myrtles will be used for two fall projects – a riparian buffer planting at Ridgway Park on November 2 and a habitat enhancement project at Bethel Landfill, tentatively scheduled for November 23rd.

Volunteers for the harvesting the wax myrtles should come prepared for sun and reaching through branches – long-sleeved shirts and insect repellent are recommended. If volunteers have pruners, those would be welcome, otherwise, equipment will be provided.

Volunteers for potting the wax myrtles should also plan for sun exposure, and be prepared to stand at the potting bench. Insect repellent is recommended. All equipment will be provided.

To sign up for either or both events, reply by email or go to http://va-hampton.civicplus.com/FormCenter/Hampton-Boards-Commissions--Committees-5/Clean-City-CommissionVolunteer-Interest--63.
