[ARCHIVED] m2 Pictures expands business, acquires historic post office

When the former post office in downtown Hampton came up for sale, Mike Sinclair, President of m2 Pictures and Ray Walsh of Metro Communications, saw a unique opportunity. Built in 1914, the Beaux Art style building with its Egyptian pilasters columns and decorative limestone arches offered unlimited production value that isn’t easily found in one building. As an added bonus, the building had retained its large open interior spaces - perfect for staged productions, sets and other uses.

“m2 Pictures has been growing steadily over the past several years”, said Walsh, ”We were running out of space to support all of the television series we have in production. When the chance to expand and stay in downtown Hampton presented itself, we jumped on it.”

Sinclair believes that for m2 Pictures, “The building is the perfect fit. The historic post office has been telling Hampton’s stories for decades. It’s the place generations of residents went to share accounts of births and deaths along with celebrations and struggles. They wrote to sons and daughters off to war and told of the city’s tragedies and triumphs. For us, it’s great to bring this grand old lady to life and get her back into the business of telling real life stories from behind those proud old columns.”

Acquired in March, the new owners are working with architects and consultants to plan and execute renovations to the exterior that will retain the building’s historic character while upgrading the interior systems to meet the unique requirements of a media production company. The building should be fully staffed and operational by November.

Founded in 2006, and already headquartered in downtown Hampton, m2 Pictures is a multiple award-winning producer of television programming for a variety of television networks including Discovery Channel, ID, National Geographic Channel, Destination America, Military Channel, and Bio among others.
