Sept. 7, 2017 - When you take your dog for a walk, you are now required to use a leash. For the Record, City Council in August changed the law, and using voice commands to control your pet is no longer sufficient on public property. The city’s Animal Control Advisory Committee requested the change, and a citizen survey showed three-fourths of respondents favored requiring a physical leash. A few other dog rules: your pet needs to be licensed, tethering is against the law in Hampton, and you are legally required to clean up after your dog.
