Aug. 14, 2017 - In a 5-2 vote Wednesday, Hampton City Council approved a change in the city's leash law that says a dog has to be under its owner or custodian's immediate control by leash, rope or chain attached to a commercial pet collar unless it is on a "bona fide hunt in the city in the company of the hunter, is off leash in an officially designated bark park, or is off leash in a space within a public park defined as an off-leash dog area." Hampton's previous law had allowed for animals to be either on a leash or under the owner’s voice control in public. Council also considered a number of zoning issues Wednesday.
