safe

Jan. 5, 2017 - Hampton police will hold a news conference at 1 p.m. today to discuss the increase in gun violence and what actions the city is taking.

The news conference follows an exchange of gunfire Wednesday afternoon on Big Bethel Road that hit a person in the parking lot at Bethel High School. Police said suspects are in custody in that shooting.

Police Chief Terry Sult will address the recent increase in violent crime, steps the police are taking to combat crime, and encourage community involvement in regards to the reporting and assistance in solving crimes.  Guest speakers Anton Bell, Hampton commonwealth attorney, and Howard Zlotnick, United States assistant attorney, will also be in attendance.

The news conference will be streamed live on the city and Police Facebook pages, and the video will be available for viewing afterward.
