[ARCHIVED] Help provide holiday gifts to Hampton area youth

angel tree

Nov. 22, 2016 - Since 2009 the city has participated in the Angel Tree program, a program that gives back to more than 500 Hampton children each holiday season.

Employees are encouraged to participate by selecting an ornament from the Angel Trees located in the City Hall lobby and emailing Lynn Butler the number on the ornament. Employees will then receive information about the child and what’s on their wish list.

Children are referred to Healthy Families Partnership by the Department of Human services, Butler said, and gifts are delivered to the children’s families on Christmas Eve – just in time for Christmas morning.

On Wednesday, Dec. 7 employees will bring their unwrapped gifts to the lobby where the Employee Council will have a table set up for the donations and gift wrapping. Butler asks that employees also donate wrapping supplies such as rolls of paper and tape.

“Without the wonderful support of the employees of the City of Hampton, the holidays for many of these children would be very cheerless,” Butler said in an email.

If anyone is interested in volunteering to wrap gifts, call Healthy Families Partnership coordinator Lynn Butler at 757-727-2729 or email Allison Nelson at anelson@hampton.gov
