[ARCHIVED] Hampton, Poquoson awarded $42,000 for emergency management programs

Sept. 30, 2016 - The cities of Hampton and Poquoson have been awarded a $42,000 grant from the federal government for emergency management efforts. Hui-Shan Walker, director of Emergency Management for Hampton, said the money will be used to "sustain and expand" Citizen Corps programs, hold joint Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, and purchase supplies such as CERT backpacks, field guides and medical supplies. 

Walker said the money will also be used to continue CERT training and for outreach programs during National Preparedness Month and other events. The grant was announced by the state Emergency Management office. The money comes from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency.
