[ARCHIVED] Paralympics gold medalist to headline Adapted Sports Day on Saturday

Sept. 28, 2016 - To promote adaptive sport and physical activity awareness for everyone, are hosting an Adaptive Sports Day on Saturday, Oct. 1 at Fort Monroe Community Center from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Adaptive Sports Day is a free event with Paralympians, who will sign autographs, meet the public and demonstrate their adaptive sport. Attendees can try power soccer, sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball, as well as watch actual adapted athletes at work.
Participants of the event are as follows:
• Nicky Nieves, Rio Gold Medalist, USA Volleyball Para Olympian
• Coaches Linda Gomez and Andy Pai, Sitting Volleyball Warrior
• Dallas Norman, Virginia Beach Adapted Water Sports
• Wheelchair Basketball Sun Wheelers and Athletes
• Power Soccer and Athletes
• Sportable Para Club
• SFC Michael D. Smith, Warrior Transition Command, Adapted Athlete Para Olympian and ARMY Warrior Athlete
• Warrior Games Athletes SOCOM
The event is sponsored by Hampton's Athletics Division and Fort Monroe Community Center and the Sitting Volleyball Warriors.
