[ARCHIVED] Change Management Notice: Internet Service Upgrade

Description & Purpose:  Information Technology will be making additional changes to upgrade capacity and improve the overall quality of internet service to all users.  This is the third of three planned changes to the City’s internet service to occur.  During this third change window we will be installing upgraded internet filtering and monitoring devices.  We anticipate that we will not have a complete internet outage, but will have outages that affect the facilities and services identified below.   
When:   Thursday, September 29th, beginning at 5 am and lasting until about 7 am.  We will see multiple short interruptions of the above facilities/services during this 2 hour  window.   All work should be completed NLT 7 am.   

Who is/is not affected:  City Internet users should not be affected, however some specific remote facilities with connectivity back to City Hall will see one or more short outages.  Email sync with O365 to desktops within the City network may see a short disruption of less than 10 minutes. 

The facilities/services that will be affected are:

  • Remote city location connectivity to City Hall
    • Arts Commission
    • Fire Stations 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 10
    • HRCJTA (Police Academy)
    • HRHA locations
      • Ausbury Place
      • Langley Village Community Center
      • Old Point
      • Shell Road
    • Parks locations
      • Buckroe Comfort Station
      • Darling Stadium
      • Mingee Drive
      • Newtown
      • Air Power Park
      • Network Neighborhood Center
      • US eDirect at all facilities
    • Police locations
      • Fort Monroe Field Office
      • Police Training Unit
  • All VPN individual remote users to include VWorkspace users.
  • All City Public Wi-Fi in our facilities (except for the Libraries)
    • Secure Wi-Fi on the City Network will not be affected

Special Instructions:  

  • If you experience any issues after 7 am on the maintenance window day, please report the problem to the IT help desk by email to helpdesk@hampton.gov or by calling 311.
